Nordic Walkers from a huge range of abilities and with a wide variety of goals can all gain from all the health and wellbeing benefits that this form of exercise can bring, as well as realising that exercise doesn’t have to be a struggle or a chore to be effective.

Here at NWUK Walking the New Forest we welcome everyone to come along to our club and see for themselves just how beneficial Nordic Walking can be for them, no matter what their goal is. Whether your motivation is fitness, weight management, social or a combination, there is something here for you in our outdoor fitness club – no walls and no gym!

With its remarkable range of plants and animals, ancient tradition of commoning, varied history and distinctive local communities, the New Forest National Park is unique.

And so are we at NWUK Walking the New Forest: we make the most of this exceptional landscape, offering a variety of walks ranging from gentle walks for those who like a more sedate pace or are just starting out on their fitness journey, to adventure walks with varying amounts of challenge and distance – some moderate-paced and some a little swifter or longer. All though, are a great opportunity to explore the New Forest.

We are a very sociable group, often stopping for coffee and cake (or sometimes a sundowner!) after the walks, with many great friendships having been forged between people whose paths would never normally have crossed.

Every now and then an ‘away day’ will take us a little further afield to sample more of the great British countryside, often taking in not only fabulous views but maybe also fabulous pubs.

I first heard of Nordic walking many years ago but it did not become an integral part of my life until November 2018 when I attended a talk and demonstration by an experienced and very motivational instructor. I was intrigued by everything it offered and two days later I was on a ‘Learn To’ course, meeting new people, learning the technique and exercising outdoors, not in a gym!

A few walks later I was hooked!

I felt refreshed and invigorated, mentally and physically, after every walk, regained my love of nature by being surrounded by the beauty of the New Forest, and motivated to manage my weight better.

I was in a position where I could completely change my career path and being a Nordic Walking Instructor and Delivery Partner meant that I could share with others how Nordic Walking could enhance their lives as a social and fun form of exercise, kind on the body while meeting new people and enjoying the great outdoors.
